My Ordeal with the Ram...lol

I had previously wanted to do a post on witches and all that Jazz but since wellsbaba beat me to it..lol the post flew out of my brain. Actually it was about the prevalence of witches in naija/ Africa (ok when next i say naija..i mean the whole of Africa...does that sound ignorant?) ok ..i repeat the prevalence of witches in naija and the lack there of or lack of fear of them here in the so called western world.

Most naija people fear witches or evil people..in that when people are traveling they don't tell people, when women are pregnant they don't tell... until they show and when they show..they remain in doors. Receiving sprayed money at wedding is wahala...not because of EFCC but because of the fear of an evil spirit prophesying evilness into the money and slamming it on your dancing face. So many superstitions and so many fear of this and that and this ana...
However, in the west ( i would speak for the US since thats where i am based), people are not really afraid of witches...even naija people..they are more open to say when their due date is or the sex of their baby....they'd tell you everything and not worry about witch A or witch B that would eat their babies or fry their ovaries.

SO my question is... are these witches just naija based or the ones here are on a different level..cos frankly i think all them fortune tellers and madames...are witches in some way.

OK i think i did a good job in trying to remember my post sha but i'll add some ranting.....ok i got this facebook invitation to a group called Dapo "Lam" Adesina for House of Rep. for Oyo state..2011. NOW any of you who don't know, Dapo "Lam" Adesina...he is the son of former Governor of Oyo state, Lam Or Lamidi or Ram Adesina....but those were the names he was known by when he was in office. Now i've heard silly stories of this young Dapo Lam guy of how his dad awarded him contracts and he handled it "badly"..thats all i'd say for now. Anyway, i was kinda mad, so i wanted to blast him on this facebook group thing..then i saw how others were blasting him and some praising him also..its a weird group.
Anyway, I decided to be tactful and give him the benefit of the doubt that he might just do some good...but i tried not to bulshit..i'll post our conversation

All i'll say is i hope you don't bullshit...I hope your intension's are genuine unless..... there would be repercussions. I would not say your dad was that great of a GOv, cos frankly there have been more useless GOvs in Oyo state, so its hard to compare. Notwithstanding, one cannot punish you for sins your dad may or may not have committed. Its up to you to determine if you'd create a great name for yourself and not hide under daddies agbada. I dont seem to hear too many great stories about you...but I guess thats why you have to prove them wrong. I like your ambition...just dont screw it up...prepare yourself well well and stop with the" que sera sera" nonsense . If someone asks you for a manifesto...prepare a damn manifesto even if we are still in 2008

someone had asked for a manifesto and his answer was que cerra cerra..(what will be will be)...WTF!!

Mr femi beckley thanks for the comments.Taken note of the points.A manifesto on facebook dont u think i wld be a clown.i have heard a lot bout u 2.Is your father Chief bayo beckley?Bodija, ibadan.besides former cottons club?very interesting

Imagine the lad had the audacity to call me a MR. and say he 's heard about me???

Mr Dapo "Lam" Adesina frankly i think you should loose the "lam" but hey ..its not my business. Anyway you might not be a clown, but you do crack jokes as I am not a MR. I am 100% all FEMALE. You are correct about your assumptions. however, you dont need to put a detailed manifesto on Fb... All i was saying was if u indeed have good intentions(manifesto/platform) for Oyo state, tell that guy what they are ..vaguely . for instance...nah let me stop ..you never know i might be your opposing candidate for rep...lol

At least he could have stated Oyo states pertinent issues that he is passionate about and given a summary of how he might tackle it..or just list the issues facing oyo state...i mean what exactly makes you want to represent Oyo state in Abuja???

femi i am very sorry i reffered to u as masculine.Hope my apologies are accepted?I really do appreciate ur comments.i wont mind having you as my opponent, sure it wld be a smooth ride 4 me....lol.watch out when the time comes for the real manifesto and not some child play on fb.i can assure u i av very pure intentions and the Lam thing i cant cos i am proud of it.The questions i am sure ur pop knows a lot bout my fathers achievement cos he was a local government chairman when my pop was n govt.Hope that answers.thank u so much,u are appreciated

In ma mind.,.apology accepted..but wetin concern my dad.. with the price of fish in Onitsha ? and saying I'd be a smooth ride...now i indeed wanted to bring out my viscious feminist side and eat him alive....but then again i thought that i'll only unleash the feminist bitch in me when it is absolutely necessary...i dont want people thinking I am those feminists that burn bras and dont shave their armpits and legs.....and i still strongly believe in chivalry...lol
Anyway i also want to give him the benefit of the doubt that the reason he said it would be a smooth race for him if i ran against him ..would not be because I am FEMALE........

Imagine other people replying me and saying oh I have guts for a woman....are u saying women dont have guts? Anyway I just thought i'd share...Funny enough when i told my father about the posts...he said he was proud of me probably cos i have shown interest in politics unlike my siblings.

Mr. Femi Beckley...LOL...So people think women don't have guts... that's why you were addressed as Mr? Hmmm...

Meanwhile, I thought this post was going to be about ram, edible ram...

This post is as random as they come...lol..from witches to ram...lol

As per not telling when u r pregnant..as a christian i feel it is biblical as I believe there is a time for everything- time to talk and a time to keep quiet. This has nothing to do with witches..just a principle i picked up from the mother of Moses Ex2:1"When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.".

i think the first three months of anything- pregnancy, a vision, etc is very key to the success of that thing. Most miscarriages, I think, happen in the first 3 months..that's just my view on this...make i no yarn too much..lol

LOL @ Mr Ram. I also thot u were referring to RAM as in RAM. Don't blame the guy, most people automatically think that anyone bearing Femi shld be a guy...he doesnt know better.. :)

Mr. Femi Beckley...lol...first of all...get a jquery plugin so i can reply while reading your post

About the Dapo 'lam' Adesina:
I don't blame him for saying he would have a smooth race with you...damn it, he's male. No male would just accept victory from a female just like that. {obama | Clinton} Well, Femi, if all women stand up to responsibilities like you, this world be a better place. Most women leave duties to men...it's wrong! And women who take up these responsibilies finally become man-haters!

Re: women not having guts. THEY DON'T! I hope you are not reading me wrong. I am not a male chauvinist as you can see, but not many women are like you...that's why when women stand up...they get beat down.

Re: 'dropping his Lam name' why wouldn't he be proud of it! That's the name that he wants to use to open other doors...i think that's cheap skate! I don't intend to defile his fountains ...I hope he can do something reasonable. OYO STATE IS WACK!WACK! WACK! Go check Lagos state...see the giant strides they are taking. Very soon the only difference between Lagos state and the whole Europe would be ALL-BLACK-PEOPLE!

Pregnancy: See, in Nigeria/Africa we live in fear! What's there in declaring pregnancy! If girls see fine bloke...everybody go sabi...the day he proposes everybody will know...the day wedding is fixed...everybody will know...when it's pregnancy...she's afraid to talk so she doesnt lose it. See the comment Aloted put up! Moses's mother! SHE WAS SCARED! CAN'T YOU READ THE LINES? AND THAT WAS BECAUSE OF THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMICAL IMPLICATIONS!See, she's talking about miscarriages...we are scared in Africa! We are scared of witches! what's the difference between African witches and yankee witches. African witches beef your parents for building a house in the village. Who are you to build a house when she/he hasnt. The sole reason for the attitudes is WICKEDNESS! But in yankee what do they care? Reading geneologies and the future and tarrot cards and whatsoever....do they have time to track your father or the baby in your womb?

We dey change for naija, i sef be winch!

aloted said...

@Seye you have a point there but i dont necessarily agree with you that EVERY person do what they do out of fear, me not wanting to talk about my pregnancy for the first 3 months has nothing to do with fear. Like i said there is a time for everything.

Evil power e.g witches exists, but the Power of God supersedes all...that is where my security lies. Other people might be scared of witches but I am not.. So please don't generalise o.

Geebee said...

I love the way you called him 'Ram' Adesina. Really, the old man does look like a Ram. I never ever thought about that. Let the boy forget it. The Adesinas are becoming so unpopular in Oyo State these days. All thesame, 'Femi Beckley' sounds more like a man's name. I don't really blame him for calling you 'Mr'

Femi B said...

@rita..my inspirational sista...sorry about the misconception of the post but if you knew Lam adesina ..you would know the reason for the ram..

@ aloted.. i guess i am a random chic..Moses mother hid her child because she did not want the Egyptians to know she had a male child because they were killing all male children.Exodus 1vs 16

Femi B said...

@seye..most women leave "some" duties to men...i see what you mean and that just annoys me. well i would never leave any duties that i feel i can handle to anyone..male or female. I am not a man-hater..not at all
@gbengasile- I understand that people mistale me for a guy becos of my name but i was only mad because he said he had heard of me ...and still refered to me as MR.....such lies

aloted said...

@femiB- yes o, we are saying the same thing in different ways...but i guess the point i was getting at is the timing...it is "3" that is significant to me...and also like i said to Seye that there is a time for everything.

I don't want to sound too assuming but I think Mr Ram needs to really work on his PR skill.
It is so embarrassing that someone of his status lacks the carriage and demeanour necessary for a would-be public office holder.
I also think he has a problem with his listening skills from his response in the conversation you had with him. How can a leader show empathy and understanding to his people if he doesn't listen to them?

I recommend that he employ me as his Public Relation Officer and Brand management consultant! Lol.

My fee is negotiable and besides, I am done with NYSC.

Femi, kindly forward my proposal to him. Lol!

Btw: Witches? No comment. I am too young! Wait until I get to the US.

@wellsbaba-being interested in politics has absolutely nothing to do with my dad being one..Infact when he held office....many years ago...i hated the fact and i did not want anything to do with politics cos i thought it was a suicide mission when you want to do good in the govt. They frustrate you at all levels.

femi shey i told u before this RAM incident that the theme of your campaign would be "Tani Baba Won" (Who is their father?)It'll be a matter of "show me your father and I'll tell you the kind of person you are". Don't worry he won't know what hit him, when u launch your campaign just holla. Anything he says about you (true or false) we'll just scream sexism... i'm sure u have an idea who this is

welcome to the club - where everyone thinks you are a guy because you speak your mind frankly and do not have/use a female name (in my cases SolomonSydelle throws people off).

But, big up to you my sista. No one can question your spirit and if you do chose to oppose this guy and others like him, let a sister know so we can raise some serious campaign funding to 'wash' everyone (just kidding) and create an incredible platform. At least one much better than que cerra cerra - he could have at least looked up a cool saying Latin, not French, for goodness sake!

take care fearless femi B!!!!

BTW, I stumbled upon a site that sells cards written in Yoruba and other Nigerian languages and slang. If only i could remember...

I read the poem and had no idea it was written by a man. That completely changes everything-im going back to re-read it!

Thank you so much for your input. My dilemma has come out of all my research for my thesis. I have always believed that Mutilation was the proper word for it because the if a man were to go through the same thing-his penis would be cut off. But after reading the work of several african female feminists and theorists...I started to question it. There is the belief that mutilation makes no distinction between Type III procedures where everything is taken off, and type I where only the hood/lios are taken off. They also say the term mutilation victimizes the people who have undergone the procedure-and is the neo-coloniastic method of the west to give names to things they dont understand. Then there are the people who say Female Cutting/Surgery are the proper terms..so I've been a bit torn!
I think the term circumcision tivializes it and is a way to avoid making it a human rights issue...

I turned in my Thesis statement today though-I called it Mutilation:-)
Thanks for your input-I will be back with comments, questions, etc as I continue to write my thesis...

THANK YOU!

I've been having a crappy day-but after reading your post I burst out laughing in the library! You are too freaking hilarious!

On Juju/Witches: I think they are all part of the same family-from Free-Masons to babalawo's! I was watching the Tyra show, and she had this episode on withces. There were white witches and black withces and then satanists. They all talked about everything freely-and all the spells they cast and ish...only in America I tell you!

On Ram Adesina: Omo you harsh oh! I dont know anything about him or his politics or that of his father-but he must be a brave soul to go and open a group on facebook.

I can't believe people were telling you your brave FOR A WOMAN. So you cant just be brave? So there are standrards for female courage? So talking back to a man makes you brave for a woman?

Naija based witches...lol You know, I wonder too how pple are able and so eager to let go of the superstitions when they get to the USA. These same pple will go back to naija and back to the old beliefs. I still find it hard to believe that witches exist.

Abt Dapo Adesina, I won't touch that subject.

That is where u get it wrong because if you have heard that i was awarded contract and i did not execute well and you didnt confirm but wanted to blast me without confirming,it is wrong. Also forget it Nigerian politics and most importantly Oyo State politics is very peculiar, you cant just come one day and say u want to contest you are just wasting your time.View from the Lam Adesina,Bola Ige and even Rasheed Ladoja cases. You must be on ground or else you d be a joker. And there is what we call political base,my base is extremely solid and those are like your foot soldiers, and are people from the interior. To them a dapo adesina rings a lot of bell because they know me so well and i relate so well with them.Go to beere, idi arere, bode, oja oba and ask about one dapo adesina you will hear what they have to say and those are the electorates, the down trodden where 80 percent of the vote comes from. How many people come out to vote in bodija, iyaganku, jehrico?Oyo State politics is very peculiar and that is why penkelemesi(peculiar mess by Adelabu) came up.If you are not on ground here in Oyo State just forget politics, its different from Lagos where you just come and take over.and the way u made it sound to peps here as if i was ever rude to u.Sure u know thats not true.I can only tell you what i feel, there is no reason to be rude to each other. You raised issues and i answered you. Then also the issue of que sera sera, you didnt give the full gist of it,you only said sum1 asked for my manifesto and i said que sera sera. That is wrong also. You should be able to give the full details of what transpired.Almost accurate reporting of events is part of journalism.at least you were able to report so well of how you gave it to me hot..........Lol.God dey o

Where exactly did i give people the impression that you were rude to me? I said i was going to blast you on facebook initially but i cautioned myself to hear all sides of the story. I did that because as NIgerians we are angry at our leaders....our leaders have failed us ..so anyone who comes out to say they want to run for office..i am sure everyones initial reaction is anger...but i wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt that was why i did not yell on your facebook group thing.
